Tennis Teams Honored to 2010 ITA All-Academic Team

2010 Men's Tennis captain Diego Abreu

 

NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT tennis teams earned recognition for their academic efforts in the classroom by receiving the 2010 Division I All-Academic Team award from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).  Six Highlanders earned individual ITA Scholar-Athlete honors.

 

To be nominated, the team must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher. 

 

The NJIT men, who are coming off of their best season of competition at the Division I level with an 18-7 record, combined for a 3.573 GPA.  The NJIT women finished 14-11 last season, combining for a 3.477 GPA.

 

In order to earn the ITA Scholar-Athlete award, the student-athlete must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.5, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

 

Members of the NJIT tennis teams' to be named ITA Scholar-Athletes were: #Isha Toor#, Dasa Stanimirovic, Diego Abreu, Cosmin Chiujdea, Carl Lundquist and Dan Salomon.

 

Isha Toor (senior, Chandigarh, India) … business major. … 3.750 GPA . … named to the Great West Conference all-Academic team. …. 18-5 overall in dual match singles contests. ... went a perfect 8-0 at the fourth spot. ... teamed with Nina Mayevska in doubles play posting a 19-5 dual match record (15-5 at first singles; 4-0 at the second spot. ... posted a 47-28 career dual match record.

 

Dasa Stanimirovic (senior, Novi Sad, Serbia) … business major. … 3.850 GPA . … named to the Great West Conference all-Academic team. … 6-8 dual match singles record. ... career-record 24-22.

 

Diego Abreu (junior, Novo Hamburgo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) … business major. … 3.650 GPA. … 16-4 record in dual match singles play. ... finished with an impressive 7-0 record at the third spot and 8-3 at the fourth spot. ... recorded a 9-8 record in dual match doubles play at first doubles. ... earned victories in his last eight regular season matches.

 

Cosmin Chiujdea (senior, Braila, Romania) … business major. … 3.709 GPA. … 10-11 overall in dual match singles play, with a 5-0 record at the fourth spot. ... career dual match record is 41-29.

 

Carl Lundquist (sophomore, Sollentuna, Sweden) … international business major. … 3.819 GPA. … joined the Highlander roster in January. … 16-5 dual match singles record while recording a 3-1 tournament record. ... was 3-0 at first singles and 12-4 at the second spot.

 

Dan Salomon (sophomore, Huixquilucan, Mexico) … architecture major. … 3.631 GPA. … 9-1 in dual matches singles play. ... went 2-0 at fourth singles; 3-0 at the fifth spot; 4-1 at sixth singles.
