DAYTON, OH – The NJIT women's tennis team went 3-0 at the two-day Dayton Invitational this past weekend improving its overall record to 6-2 on the season.
NJIT opened up the tournament on Friday, recording a 5-2 win against Robert Morris and edged Lipscomb 4-3 before defeating host Dayton Saturday, 5-2.
NJIT swept the doubles competition against Robert Morris and took four out of six singles contests.
Junior Nina Mayevska and senior Isha Toor started out the match taking an 8-4 victory at first doubles. Mayevska won by identical scores at first singles 6-1, 6-1 as Toor went 6-0, 6-4 at the fourth spot.
Doubles pair Ana Lidon and Fanny Aizier were 8-4 winners at second doubles. Aizier won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, at fifth singles.
Anine Lovdal and Dasa Stanimirovic went 8-2 at the final doubles spot while Stanimirovic blanked Emily Himmel, 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles.
In Friday's second match of the day for the NJIT women, Lipscomb took two out of three contests in the doubles competition to pick up one point. The Highlanders won at third doubles, 8-6.
Lipscomb was victorious at first and second singles but the Highlanders bounced back to win the next four singles contests to secure the win.
NJIT single winners were: Lidon (6-2, 6-1; third singles); Toor (3-6, 6-3, 6-2; fourth singles); Aizier (6-1, 6-0; fifth singles) and Stanimirovic (4-6, 6-1, 6-4; sixth singles).
Saturday's contest vs. Dayton, Mayevska dominated at first singles taking a 6-4, 6-4 decision. Lidon was a 6-0, 6-1 winner for the Highlanders at third singles; Toor topped Dayton's Kelly O'Connell, 6-4, 6-4 at the fourth spot and Aizier took fifth singles 6-1, 6-2.
Mayevska and partner Toor were 8-6 winners at first doubles followed by Lidon and Aizier with a 8-4 victory at second doubles. Dayton prevailed at third doubles with a 8-5 win.
NJIT will break until March 6 when the team travels to Army to face Providence and host Army.
