ITA All-Academic Team
NEWARK, NJ – Five members of the NJIT tennis teams were recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their excellence in the classroom.
The honorees were: Steve Erickson, Anthony Tunnero , and Bryan Keelan from the men's team and Iulia Doci and Isha Toor on the women's side.
Here is a list of the recipients in alphabetical order:
Iulia Doci (#1 singles/#1 doubles; senior; Bistrita, Romania) … business major … closed out her career that included being named National Division I Independent Player of the Year in women's tennis in 2007-08 and was also named to the all-Independent first team at number one singles. Doci's career singles record, all at number one, ended at 65-14. Doci was named to the 2009 Independent all-Tournament team.
Steve Erickson (#1 singles; junior; Emerson, NJ) … business major … captured the Flight A Singles championship of the 2008 ECAC Open ... went 10-2 overall (6-2 in tournament play; 4-0 in dual matches) … posted an 18-6 overall record at first singles (7-4 at #1 singles; 5-0 at #2 singles); 12-4 in dual matches.
Bryan Keelan (#6 singles; sophomore; Wall, NJ) … architecture major enrolled in NJIT's Albert Dorman Honors College. … posted a 2-2 overall record.
Isha Toor (#4 singles; junior; Chandigarth, India) … business major … finished 7-6 overall; 4-3 at fourth singles.
Anthony Tunnero (#5 singles; junior; Flemington, NJ) … finance and economics major … 8-5 overall; 4-0 at fifth singles.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner; 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; and, 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
