PHILADEPHIA – The NJIT men's tennis team raised its overall record to 8-5 with a convincing 6-1 win over La Salle University Tuesday afternoon.
NJIT won five of the six singles matches and swept in doubles competition.
NJIT's Carl Lundquist and Anthony Tunnero teamed for an 8-6 win at first doubles against La Salle's George Gennaoui and Jon Maula. Lundquist was also a winner at first singles defeating Gennaoui 6-3, 6-4 while Tunnero was victorious at the fifth spot topping La Salle's Andy Petrusky 6-1, 6-0.
Seniors Jonathan Lang and Dimitri Athans picked up a 8-5 win at second doubles while Lang and Athans claimed wins at third and fourth singles.
NJIT's Dan Salomon and Bryan Keelan added a 9-7 victory for the Highlanders at third doubles. Salomon topped La Salle's Bill Nason at second singles 6-0, 6-2.
The only win for La Salle was at sixth singles, won by Chris Butera 6-1, 6-1.
The Highlanders return to action Saturday, when they travel to Smithfield, Rhode Island and face Bryant. The match is scheduled for 1:30pm.
