WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The NJIT men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the 14th Annual Monmouth University Open Saturday afternoon at Kessler Field.
The meet was scored as a series of dual meets against six Division I teams -- Rutgers, Fordham, Quinnipiac, Stony Brook, Saint Francis (NY) and host Monmouth.
Junior Lesley Hendricks finished in the top 10 of the women's 400 meter run with a time of 1:01.20, setting a new NJIT school-record. Teammate Nicole Kerrison set a school-record in the 400 meter hurdles.
One the men's side, four school-record were set starting with junior captain Umar Saeed in the men's 1500 meter run placing second at 4:04.08 behind Saint Francis's Rafael Ksepka who finished 4:04.52.
Freshman Christian Baumbach placed third in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 15:03.80. Sophomore Mark Givens picked up a third place finish in the men's 400 meter run at 49.39. #Michael Gurlacz# added a fourth place finish in the 800 meter run.
