GRAND FORKS, ND – University of North Dakota defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology, 3-0, Friday night at the Sioux Center in Great West Conference women's volleyball action.
North Dakota took the first-match season series vs. NJIT, taking Friday's match 25-20, 25-15 and 25-11.
NJIT is now 14-6 overall, 4-1 in the conference, while North Dakota, who has won the last 10 out of 11 matches improves to 15-6, 5-1 in the conference. With tonight's victory, North Dakota moves into first place in Great West Conference play.
NJIT's kills' leader was sophomore outside hitter Renata Pandolfo, who notched nine kills. Senior Kristy Haeckel had five kills while Katrina Hornstein added four.
Freshman Anna Mercado played two sets at setter and had a team-leading 15 assists for the Highlanders. Senior captain Sabrina Baby paced the NJIT defense with 20 digs. Pandolfo registered 10.
North Dakota, got a match-high 14 kills from Devin Trefz, while Megan Langseth piled up a match-high 36 assists and Annika Smed picked up 19 digs followed by Taylor Bohannon with 13 digs. Erin Joki's and Langseth four total blocks were also a match-high.
