Franco Gamero registers first collegiate goal

Box Score

BETHLEHELM, PALehigh junior James Graf delivered what proved to be the game-winning tally in a 2-1 win for the Mountain Hawks in men's soccer Tuesday night at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

NJIT freshman Franco Gamero found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal just 6:14 into Tuesday's contest.  Classmate Jack McVey assisted on the goal.  Gamero took a pass from McVey and beat Lehigh's goalkeeper Jonathan Nydell.

That score held up for only eight minutes, until Mountain Hawks senior Jesse Schram registered his second goal of the season, assisted by Jordie Ciuffetelli.  Ciuffetelli threw-in a pass to Schram where he beat NJIT senior goalkeeper Ryan Sutherland on a hard shot high knotting the match at 1-1.

The Highlanders, who came in with five losses by the thin margin of one goal, met the same fate again after Graf notched the go-ahead goal at 56:28.  Graf's winning goal was a header off of a throw-in by Ciuffetelli.

NJIT goalkeeper Sutherland stopped five of Lehigh's seven shots on goal while Mountain Hawk keeper Nydell made one save.

Five players combined for NJIT's seven shots.  Gramero and senior Gustav Warfving had two shots apiece, while McVey, senior Alex Brito and Atlantic Soccer Conference Player of the Week Chico Lugo each got off a shot.  Gamero and Lugo's shots were on goal.

NJIT will travel to Piscataway, NJ for a 7pm match at Rutgers next Wednesday.

In the last meeting between the schools, NJIT scored two second-half goals in the Highlanders' come-from-behind 2-1 victory.
