Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0

Four Highlanders reach double figures in digs

HACKENSACK, NJ – The NJIT women's volleyball team recorded its sixth win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday night at the Rothman Center.

 

NJIT, competing in its third season at the Division I level, have won its last four out of five matches. 

 

NJIT gained the upper hand late in the first set, as the Highlanders won, 25-21.  The match stayed tight until the second frame, before NJIT took the set 25-17.  The Highlanders secured the match, 25-13, in final set.

 

Freshman Renata Pandolfo shared game-high honors with Fairleigh Dickinson's Lauren Boothby with 10 kills. Following closely behind was NJIT's Juliana Araujo with seven kills while teammates Katrina Hornstein and Agnieszka Pregowska registered six apiece.

Setter Erica Schultz got 29 assists, while Schultz and Pregowska shared team-high honors with two service aces apiece.  FDU had a slight 7-6 edge in service aces led by Meghan Alger and Boothby with three each.

 

Libero Sabrina Baby led the Highlanders with 22 digs and NJIT, playing a strong defensive game on the floor had three players reach double figures in digs, including Pandolfo, who had 12 and freshman Audrey Snell adding 10.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson had five players reach double figures in digs – Kelsey Semler (15), Boothby (14), Sarah Willey, Ali Philbrick (10) and Karolina Kowalski (10).  Kowalski piled up 19 assists.

 

The Highlanders return to action on Saturday, September 27 when they compete in the Quinnipiac Bobcat Invitational.  NJIT faces host Quinnipiac in the opening round on Saturday at 2pm and then take on Hartford at 4:30pm.  The Highlanders will wrap up the tournament on Sunday morning at 11:30am when they face Coppin State.
