SOUTH ORANGE , NJ – The NJIT women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Illinois State on Saturday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium in game two of the Seton Hall Invitational.

Set 1: Illinois State - 25 | NJIT - 15
Set 2: Illinois State - 25 | NJIT - 18
Set 3: Illinois State - 25 | NJIT - 13
The Highlanders battled throughout the opening set, but Illinois State used a strong offensive attack to take a 25-15 victory and grab an early 1-0 lead.
NJIT continued to compete in the second set, recording eight kills, but the Redbirds pulled away late to earn a 25-18 win and take a 2-0 advantage.
The Redbirds closed out the match in the third set, posting a 25-13 victory.
Freshman
Leah Devaraj led the Highlanders offensively with a team-high eight kills, while freshman
Joaneliz Maisonet added five kills and four kills came from junior
Aries Fontaine. Senior
Rowan Schreiber contributed three kills, while freshman
Tereza Motalova and sophomore
Martina Gonzalo Cortes each added two.
Junior
Finley McAndrew recorded a team-high 14 assists, while junior
Cece Marino added eight assists. McAndrew also contributed three digs on the defensive end.
Maisonet and Devaraj each recorded six digs to lead NJIT, while freshman
Mya Lei-Butters also finished with six digs. NJIT recorded three service aces, with Maisonet and Motalova each contributing one.
The Highlanders finished the match with 26 kills and 25 assists, while the Redbirds posted 47 kills and 41 assists. NJIT totaled 29 digs and two blocks.
