SOUTH ORANGE , NJ – The NJIT women's volleyball team battled Seton Hall in straight sets on Sunday afternoon to close out the Seton Hall Invitational.

The Highlanders continued to fight throughout the match, particularly in the final two sets. NJIT pushed Seton Hall to extra points in both the second and third sets, but the Pirates ultimately secured both frames to complete the sweep.
Junior Aries Fontaine led the Highlanders offensively with a team-high nine kills, hitting .318 for the match. Freshman Kayden Campbell added eight kills, while junior Sara Siefert finished with seven kills and four service aces.
NJIT also received a strong offensive performance from sophomore Martina Gonzalo Cortes, who recorded five kills, while freshman Tereza Motalova contributed four kills and a team-best three blocks.
At the setter position, junior Finley McAndrew recorded a team-high 13 assists, while junior Cece Marino added 12 assists. Marino also led the Highlanders defensively with nine digs.
Siefert contributed seven digs to go along with her four aces, while freshman Mya Lei-Butters and sophomore Ela Akay each recorded six digs. NJIT finished the match with 42 total digs.
After falling 25-18 in the opening set, NJIT responded in the second frame, recording 16 kills and taking Seton Hall to 26-24. The Highlanders again battled in the third set, forcing another extra-point finish before the Pirates claimed the set, 28-26.
NJIT finished the match with 38 kills, 31 assists, six service aces and five blocks. Seton Hall recorded 48 kills, 45 assists, five aces and six blocks.
