Women's Volleyball Sweeps Wagner, 3-0

STATEN ISLAND, NY - Visiting NJIT swept to a 3-0 win over Wagner in women's volleyball action Friday night at the Spiro Sports Center.

NJIT recorded its 12th win of the 2007 season topping Wagner in three straight frames -- 30-21, 30-27 and 30-18.

Sophomore Katrina Hornstein led the Highlander offense with a team-high 11 kills on 16 attempts with no errors for a .688 hitting percentage. She also added nine digs.

Kubra Tanrikulu and Agnieszka Pregowska each notched eight digs. Sophomore Kristy Haeckel who has been sidelined for the last couple of matches produced seven kills on 11 attempts with one error. Haeckel hit .545 for the game. Also adding to the Highlander offense was freshman Baaba Hughes who recorded six.

On the defensive end, Hughes posted a game-high 10 digs. Hornstein who was one dig shy of a double-double recorded nine. Sophomores Erica Schultz and Sabrina Baby dug-up eight while Tanrikulu added six.

NJIT setter Schultz piled up a game-high 34 assists.

The Highlanders combined for eight service aces which was led by Hughes with five. Three different Highlanders recorded one service ace.

For the Seahawks who fall to 3-17 on the year, were led by Ashley Pepper with a match-high 12 kills. Alex Klein led the way on the defensive end for Wagner with nine digs. Erin Henneberger and Gabi Hilk split time at the setting position. Hilk posted 18 while Henneberger added 13.

NJIT will return to action when they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, November 7 for a 7pm start.

The Highlanders will close out regular season play on Saturday, November 10 at 7 pm, when it hosts Delaware State. That contest will be Senior Day, with NJIT set to honor its seniors in pre-game ceremonies --Tanrikulu, Ashley Craig, Rebecca Wilkinson and Kasia Rusin.
