Women's Volleyball Tabs Four Highlanders to the 2007 Division I All-Independent Team

2007 Division I Volleyball All-Independent Team

OREM, UT - Agnieszka Pregowska, Kristy Haeckel and Sabrina Baby of the NJIT women's volleyball team were selected to the 2007 Division I All-Independent second team while sophomore Erica Schultz was honored with honorable mention, award coordinator Clint Burgi of Utah Valley announced.

NJIT completes the regular season with a 13-21 record. The 13 wins are up from the Highlanders' first season of Division I competition when they finished 2006 at 10-21.

Pregowska, a junior leads the Highlanders with 427 points and ranks third on the team with 314 kills notching a season-best 23 kills against Providence on Oct. 26. She has a team best .272 attacking percentage. Her 101 total blocks ranks her first on the team recording a new individual match school Division I record, with 12 total blocks.

Haeckel, the sophomore outside hitter is the Highlanders season kills leader with 323 kills in 103 games of action. She has posted double-figure totals in 20 out of 30 games setting a season-high 22 kills, 18 digs in a tough 3-2 loss to Seton Hall back on Sept. 5.

Baby, NJIT's sophomore libero, was named to the NCAA Division I All-Academic team while leading the Highlanders defense this year with 738 digs and 64 service aces, which ranks her first in Division I Independent Volleyball statistics in both categories. She recorded double-figure totals in every game but two while posting a Highlander Division I record for 42 digs against Sacred Heart on October 31, surpassing her own record of 41, set this season in September. Baby was also honored on October 2 & 16, for her standout play as Defensive Player of the Week.

Schultz, a sophomore transfer from Louisiana Tech is playing in her first season at NJIT. She has posted two triple-doubles this year, which came against Lafayette on Sept. 11 (11k, 41a, 23d) and at Harvard on Sept. 22 (10k, 18a, 14d). She has posted double-figure totals in 27 out of 31 games setting a season's best 60 assists against Providence - three shy of teammate Danielle Thompson's school Division I-record 63 last year.

Utah Valley swept the four major Division I Independent volleyball awards led by senior Jessica Endres as Offensive Player of the Year and sophomore Allyce Wilson as Defensive Player of the Year. Head Coach Sam Atoa was named Coach of the Year leading the Wolverines to an 18-9 record. Kayli Broadbent was honored as Freshman of the Year.

The Division I all-Independent women's volleyball team was selected by a vote of sports information directors and head coaches at member institutions.
