Three Highlanders Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

​NEWARK, NJ — Three NJIT women's tennis student-athletes have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Seniors Laura Wipfli, Irene Cocero and Paula Menendez Alvarez were recognized for their combined excellence in academics and athletics.

The CSC Academic All-District Team honors student-athletes who are key contributors to their teams while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Laura Wipfli
A native of Ecublens, Switzerland, Wipfli will graduate from NJIT with a degree in business and a 3.983 GPA. The Highlanders senior earned Big South First Team Singles, First Team Doubles and All-Academic Team honors during the 2025-26 season.

A three-time Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week selection, Wipfli compiled a 20-5 regular-season singles record, highlighted by a 12-match winning streak from Jan. 24 through March 6. In doubles play, she teamed with Cocero to post a 16-6 regular-season mark, including a 12-match winning streak from Feb. 7 through April 4.

At the 2026 Big South Women's Tennis Championship, Wipfli went undefeated at No. 1 singles (3-0) and added a pair of doubles victories to help lead NJIT to a runner-up finish in the program's first-ever appearance in the Big South Championship match.

Wipfli was also selected to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with national honorees scheduled to be announced on June 2.

She concluded the 2025-26 campaign with a 23-5 overall singles record and a 17-6 doubles mark.

Irene Cocero
Cocero, from Alcalá de Henares, Spain, will graduate from NJIT with a degree in business and a 3.726 GPA.

The Highlanders senior earned Big South First Team Doubles and Second Team Singles honors. Partnering with Wipfli in doubles competition, the duo posted a 16-6 regular-season record, highlighted by a 12-match winning streak from Feb. 7 through April 4.

At the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, Cocero recorded victories in both singles and doubles play.

She finished the 2025-26 season with a 20-6 overall singles record and a 17-6 doubles record.

Paula Menendez Alvarez
Menendez Alvarez, a native of Gijón, Spain, will graduate from NJIT with a degree in industrial engineering and a 3.859 GPA.

The Highlanders senior earned Big South First Team Singles recognition after posting a 19-4 regular-season record at the No. 2 singles position.

At the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, Menendez Alvarez went 3-0 at second singles and finished the 2025-26 season with a 22-4 overall record.
