NEWARK, NJ — Senior guard
Alejandra Zuniga has been named one of 13 student-athletes selected to the 2026 DI-AAA Women's Scholar-Athlete Team, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced.
A native of Madrid, Spain, Zuniga caps a remarkable career as NJIT's all-time leading scorer with 1,741 points. A four-time America East All-Conference selection, she was also named a finalist for the 2026 Lilly Women's College All-Star Game.
Zuniga played a key role in one of the most successful seasons in program history. NJIT advanced to the second round of the WNIT for the first time and earned its first-ever Division I postseason victory with a win at Merrimack on March 19. The Highlanders made their first Division I postseason appearance (second overall; 2004–05 ECAC Tournament), set a program record with 19 wins, and recorded a program-best 10 road victories. NJIT also matched a program record with nine America East Conference wins, added nine non-conference victories (the most in the Division I era), and secured its best start in program history (5–1). The team's win over Saint Peter's on Nov. 19, 2025, marked its largest margin of victory since 2012.
This season, Zuniga averaged 17.8 points per game, 3.9 assists per game, and 3.8 rebounds per game. She ranks second in the program's Division I era with 338 assists and set a single-game school record with 39 points at UMBC on January 1.
A three-time College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection and a member of the America East All-Academic Team, Zuniga will graduate in May with a degree in Communications and Media.
To be eligible for the DI-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team, nominees must maintain a minimum 3.20 GPA (on a 4.00 scale), be a starter or key reserve with significant athletic credentials, compete in at least 50 percent of their team's contests, and have reached junior academic standing at their institution.
