Highlanders Shutout UAlbany, 6-0, Sunday Afternoon

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The NJIT baseball team shutout UAlbany, 6-0, in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.

Behind six scoreless innings from Brandon Peterson and a late offensive surge, the Highlanders snapped their skid and closed the series on a strong note.

After both teams traded scoreless innings through the first five frames, the Highlanders broke through in the sixth when Nick Vega got the Highlanders on the board with a solo home run to left field.

Peterson worked around traffic throughout his outing, scattering five hits across six shutout innings while striking out two and walking three.

The Highlanders broke the game open in the seventh inning with a five-run outburst. Rowin O'Connor was hit by a pitch to start the frame before Cole Campbell and Austin Francis followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases.

Jack Stead delivered the big hit of the inning, lining a two-run single into left-center to extend the lead to 3-0. After a passed ball moved runners into scoring position, Connor Klock launched a three-run home run to right field, capping the inning and pushing the Highlanders ahead 6-0.

Out of the bullpen, Anthony Anzaldi closed the door with three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four to secure the Highlanders' shutout victory.
