ALBANY, N.Y. -- The NJIT baseball team falls to UAlbany on a walk-off sacrifice fly, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon.
In a game dominated by pitching, Mark Scamardella delivered one of his strongest starts of the season for the Highlanders, tossing eight scoreless innings while allowing just four hits and striking out seven.Â
The Highlanders were limited to three hits over seven shutout frames, however they threatened in the fifth inning when Jack Stead singled and Conner Rippo worked a walk, but the Highlanders were unable to capitalize.
The Highlanders created another scoring chance in the seventh as Stead and Dillon Can recorded back-to-back singles with one out, putting runners at the corners.Â
The final opportunity came in the eighth when Ty Sallie drew a walk and Rowin O'Connor lined a single to right, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position.
The Great Danes were able to secure the win in the bottom of the ninth inning with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Stead led the Highlanders at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, accounting for half of the Highlanders' four hits. Can and Rowin O'Connor each added one hit, while Rippo reached base three times via walks.
