Wipfli, Menendez Alvarez and Cocero Earn 2026 Big South All-Conference Honors

​NEWARK, NJ — Laura Wipfli, Paula Menendez Alvarez and Irene Cocero were named to the 2026 Big South Conference Women's Tennis postseason teams, the league office announced Wednesday.

Wipfli, a senior from Ecublens, Switzerland, earned First Team Singles, First Team Doubles and All-Academic Team honors. Menendez Alvarez, a senior from Gijón, Spain, was selected to the First Team Singles, while Cocero, a senior from Alcalá de Henares, Spain, garnered First Team Doubles and Second Team Singles recognition.

First Team Singles | First Team Doubles | All-Academic Team
A three-time Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week, Wipfli compiled a 20-5 overall singles record this season, including a 12-match winning streak from January 24 to March 6. She enters postseason play having won five straight matches and 17 of her last 19.

In doubles action, Wipfli teamed with Cocero to post a 16-6 overall record, highlighted by a 12-match winning streak from February 7 to April 4. A business major, Wipfli boasts a 3.983 GPA.

Paula Menendez Alvarez
First Team Singles
Menendez Alvarez registered a 19-4 overall record in singles play at the No. 2 position. She has won 14 of her last 15 matches heading into the conference tournament.

Irene Cocero
First Team Doubles | Second Team Singles
Cocero partnered with Wipfli to record a 16-6 doubles mark, including a 12-match winning streak from February 7 to April 4.

In singles competition, Cocero is 18-5 overall and enters postseason play riding a 12-match winning streak, having won 15 of her last 16 matches.

Next Up
NJIT, the No. 4 seed, opens play at the 2026 Big South Conference Championship on Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m. against No. 5 Presbyterian.

Tournament Information
All matches will be held at the Lexington County Tennis Complex in Lexington, South Carolina.

The single-elimination tournament features five Big South women's tennis programs: Charleston Southern, Longwood, NJIT, Presbyterian and UNC Asheville. The top two seeds receive byes into the semifinals.

Schedule
First Round — Thursday, April 16
No. 4 NJIT vs. No. 5 Presbyterian — 11:00 a.m.

Semifinals — Friday, April 17
No. 1 Longwood vs. 4/5 Winner — 9:00 a.m.
No. 2 Charleston Southern vs. No. 3 UNC Asheville — 12:00 p.m.

Championship — Saturday, April 18
Final — 11:00 a.m.

The tournament champion will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
