LITTLE FALLS, NJ — NJIT dropped a 4–2 decision to Saint Peter's in extra innings Saturday at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The Highlanders (5-6) evened the game in the eighth inning, but the Peacocks (1-9) used a two-run home run in the 10th to secure the victory.
Saint Peter's struck first in the fifth when Max Abrams hit a two-run homer to center field, scoring Luke Schwartz to give the Peacocks a 2–0 lead.
NJIT answered in the sixth. Ty Sallie reached third on a dropped fly ball and came home on an RBI single from Austin Francis to cut the deficit to 2–1.
The Highlanders tied the game in the eighth as Sallie singled and stole second before Cole Campbell delivered an RBI single to bring him home and knot the score at 2–2.
The game remained tied until the 10th, when RJ Azarieh hit a two-run homer to put Saint Peter's ahead 4–2.
NJIT threatened in the bottom of the inning by loading the bases, but could not push a run across.
Josh Willitts turned in a strong start for the Highlanders, tossing 7.1 innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Tade Riordan took the loss, pitching the final 2.2 innings and allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two and walking one.
Sallie scored both NJIT runs and stole two bases, while Dillon Can added two hits and a walk.
