Women’s Tennis Sweeps Visiting Holy Cross, 7-0

​NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT women's tennis team extended its winning streak to four with a dominant 7-0 sweep of Holy Cross Crusaders Wednesday morning at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

NJIT (9-2) secured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 before capturing all six singles matches to complete the shutout.

Petra Koszo and Asima Sazan opened doubles play with a 6-3 victory at the third spot, and Laura Wipfli and Lusia Hepcal Barcan followed with a 6-3 win at No. 2 to clinch the point.

The Highlanders carried that momentum into singles. At the top flight, Wipfli powered past Phoebe Devine, 6-2, 6-0. Irene Cocero added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Maddie Hamm at No. 3, while Sazan earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4. Paula Menendez Alvarez topped Margaret Winieck, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles.

Koszo delivered the tightest match of the afternoon, battling to a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Hepcal Barcan closed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 6.
