BURLINGTON, VT–Vermont topped visiting NJIT, 14-5, in America East Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.
With the win, Vermont improved to an even 4-4 on the season, 2-1 in the America East while the Highlanders moved to 4-6 on the season, 1-1 in the league.
Freshman Blake Piscitiello led the scoring effort for NJIT with three goals on 10 shots. Carson Piscitiello contributed two goals, converting three of his four shots on goal. Benjamin Roberts facilitated the attack with two assists, providing key setups. In the goal, Cameron Kurdyla recorded 15 saves against 42 shots faced.
The game opened with Vermont taking control, leading to an early goal by Max Frattaroli at 14:22. NJIT responded with a goal from Carson Piscitiello, assisted by Benjamin Roberts, tying the score at 1-1. Vermont regained the lead with back-to-back goals, extending their advantage to 3-1. Carson Piscitiello struck again for NJIT, narrowing the gap to 3-2 at the 5:02 mark. However, Vermont capitalized on a man-up opportunity when Frattaroli scored his second goal at 2:15, concluding the first quarter with a 4-2 lead over NJIT.
Vermont dominated the second quarter, scoring six unanswered goals against NJIT. Despite NJIT's defensive efforts, including multiple saves by Cameron Kurdyla, Vermont maintained control throughout the quarter and held a 10-2 lead at the half.
Vermont extended its lead in the third quarter, scoring three consecutive goals for a 13-2 lead. NJIT responded with Blake Piscitiello scoring his 22nd goal of the season at 2:37, narrowing the gap to 13-3.
In the fourth quarter, Vermont scored the first goal of the period to extend the Catmount lead, 14-3. NJIT responded with Blake Piscitiello scoring at 5:31, marking his 23rd goal of the season. With just six seconds remaining, Blake Piscitiello scored again, assisted by Emmerick Dopona, bringing his season total to 24 goals.
