Track and Field Opens 2026 Outdoor Season with Strong Performances

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT men's and women's outdoor track and field teams opened the 2026 season at the Raleigh Relays, Monmouth Invitational and Danny Curren Invitational.

Raleigh Relays | Results 
Freshman Jessie Fotheringham placed third in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:58.55, becoming the program's first NCAA Women's Regional Qualifier. The performance punched her ticket provisionally to the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East First Round (Regionals) from Wednesday, May 27, to Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the UK Track & Field Complex hosted by University of Kentucky. Her time is six seconds faster than the qualifying time for last season's NCAA Championships in Oregon.  The time also ranks the Highlander freshman from Tamworth, NSW, Australia No. 1 in the East Region and No. 3 in the nation.  The mark is also a new NJIT school record.

Graduate student Anthony Dvorsky broke his own school record in the men's 10,000-meter run, clocking a time of 29:50.67—31 seconds faster than his previous mark.

Junior William Mitchell set a new school record in the men's 5000 meter with a time of 14:39.13.

Monmouth Invitational | Results 
Andrew Sabeh placed third in the men's hammer throw with a distance of 52.83m on the Highlanders first attempt of the Invitational.  

Senior Iciar Rubio Gonzalez finished 11th in the women's discus throw with a distance of 32.61m on her third attempt. 

Two Highlanders finished in the top nine of the men's discus throw – Nate Homefield (seventh; 43.19m)) and Caleb Duvelson (ninth; 40.49m).

In the men's javelin, Jason Ballen took second with a distance of 56.95m while teammate Devran Dikmen earned a fifth-place finish with a distance of 50.28m.

Duvelson registered a second-place finish in the men's shot put with a distance of 15.22m.   

Danny Curren Invitational | Results 
Jason Alvarez and Dakota Jones led the way for the Highlanders, capturing the men's and women's 100-meter and 110-meter hurdles titles in 14.58 and 14.69, respectively. Kayla Kelsick added a strong performance in the event, placing second with a time of 14.78.  The time for Jones and Alvarez is a new school record mark.

Zaidah Lightener claimed first place in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.73 meters, while teammate Maria Owens secured third at 5.63 meters.

In the women's high jump, Isabella Patruno earned a runner-up finish, clearing 1.65 meters, setting a new NJIT school record mark.

Kierstin Ashby posted a fourth-place finish in the women's 200 meters, clocking in at 25.46, and Ryan Lang turned in a second-place performance in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:54.82.

The Highlanders will return to action on Saturday, April 4 at the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton.
