NEWARK, NJ–
NJIT Athletics installed new state-of-the-art FieldTurf surface at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium, which will provide substantial benefits for the Highlander student-athletes.

The new FieldTurf Vertex CORE system with CoolPlay infill cooling technology, will now be used by the Highlanders men's and women's soccer programs and men's lacrosse program during practices and on game days.

"I am very excited to have been able to upgrade the turf on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium this summer," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Lenny Kaplan. "Our primary athletic field gets a lot of use between our team practices/games, intramural/recreation programs and general student body activities. Our students, whether athletes or not, deserve the best, most up-to-date facilities. At times when budgets are not expanding, I am proud to say this project was 100% paid for by our generous donors. This project was completed quickly, efficiently, and without the use of university funds."

  • The FieldTurf Vertex CORE system is designed with two advanced fibers – a Classic HD slit-film fiber and the CORE monofilament super fiber. The fibrillation process of the slit-film component allows for proper infill encapsulation, while the monofilament fibers facilitate grass-like ball roll. Both fibers are tufted together in the same stitch for a superior aesthetic appearance. The system features FieldTurf's heavyweight infill system, which has been proven to deliver a lower incidence of total injuries and a unique wide-gauge design that delivers leading cleat release times.

  • CoolPlay is a FieldTurf exclusive and an industry-leading cooling technology. The extruded composite top dressing is designed to reduce surface temperature without compromising performance or adding additional maintenance. Independent testing highlights results 35ºF cooler than traditional sand/rubber infill systems. Unlike competitor systems, CoolPlay requires no water/irrigation to enable its cooling effect. CoolPlay is trusted by the University of Texas at El Paso, Texas State University, California Institute of Technology, and over 350 programs
In the NCAA, over 1500 programs, including Notre Dame, the University of Oregon, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Utah, trust FieldTurf. NJIT joins a group of elite programs.
