Sallie’s Walk-Off Sacrifice Fly Lifts Highlanders Past UAlbany, 5–4

LITTLE FALLS, N.J. — The NJIT baseball team walked off UAlbany in extra innings on Friday afternoon, defeating the Great Danes, 5–4, in 10 innings at Yogi Berra Stadium.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, Ty Sallie delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Cole Campbell to score the decisive run and secure the Highlanders' seventh victory and first America East win of the season.

The Highlanders struck first in the opening inning. Campbell reached base and later scored on a throwing error before Sallie doubled into the gap to set up an RBI ground out from Lorenzo Camilleri, giving the Highlanders an early 2–0 advantage.

The Highlanders added another run in the fifth inning after defensive miscues by the Great Danes helped extend the frame. Austin Francis lifted a sacrifice fly to left field to push the Highlanders lead to 3–0.

On the mound, Mark Scamardella was dominant in his start, tossing five hit less innings while striking out seven and allowing just one walk to keep the Great Danes off the scoreboard through the first half of the contest.

The Great Danes broke through in the seventh inning and then rallied in the eighth, scoring three runs to tie the game at 4–4 and force extra innings.

The Highlanders answered in the bottom of the seventh when Rowin O'Connor singled and later scored on an RBI single from Francis to briefly restore the Highlanders' lead before the Great Danes' eighth-inning push evened the score once again.

After both teams were held scoreless in the ninth and the top of the 10th, Campbell sparked the game-winning rally with a leadoff single. Francis followed with a bunt single and Jack Stead drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Sallie's walk-off sacrifice fly.

Campbell led the Highlanders offensively with a three-hit performance and scored twice, while Francis added two hits and two RBIs. Sallie drove in two runs, including the decisive game-winner.

Out of the bullpen, Tyler Kim earned the win after tossing three innings of relief and limiting the Great Danes to two hits while striking out two.
