Blake Piscitiello Records Nine Points in 17-10 Victory Over St. John’s

FLANDERS, N.J. - Blake Piscitiello recorded nine points (6 goals, 3 assists) in a 17-10 victory over St. John's (0-1) on Sunday evening at Mount Olive High School.
 
The Highlanders improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2024.
 
NJIT was held scoreless until JC Echezuria netted his first goal of the season at the 6:20 mark of the first quarter. St. John's responded with two man-up goals, but Piscitiello and Sininsky answered with scores to tie the game at 3–3 at the end of the opening period.
 
The back-and-forth battle continued in the second quarter. After a Piscitiello goal, St. John's scored twice to regain the lead. NJIT closed the half with three unanswered goals, including two by Will Corry, to take a 7–5 advantage into halftime.
 
The Highlanders held the Johnnies scoreless for 15 minutes until Jayson Cardenas scored at the 8:09 mark of the third quarter. NJIT responded with four goals over a five-minute span and carried a 12–9 lead into the fourth.
 
NJIT opened the final period with four consecutive goals and kept St. John's off the scoreboard for more than 11 minutes, until the 4:28 mark.
 
Sininsky and Corry each finished with five points, tallying three goals and two assists apiece. Defensively, Sullivan O'Brien recorded two caused turnovers and six ground balls, while Emmerick Dopona added two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Cameron Kurdyla made 11 saves in goal.
 
Nirio Garcia (14-of-21) and Michael Gaffney (5-of-9) combined to win 63.3% of their faceoffs. NJIT outshot St. John's 56-37, but the Johnnies held a 42-38 edge in ground balls.
 
Noah Plenn led St. John's with seven points (3 goals, 4 assists). Ryan Miele had three caused turnovers and Matt Nelson made 13 saves.
 
Next Up
NJIT will host Lafayette on Feb. 14 in a Valentine's Day showdown at 1:30 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
