​NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's lacrosse team fell to Lafayette, 19-9, Saturday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium in non-conference play.

The Highlanders, now 2-1 on the season, battled with the Leopards throughout the contest but could not keep pace with Lafayette's balanced attack.

NJIT and Lafayette exchanged early goals in the first quarter before the Leopards pulled ahead. Lafayette scored five second-quarter goals to build momentum, and despite efforts from the Highlanders, the Leopards continued to extend their advantage over the final two periods, including a 7-2 advantage in the third period.

The Highlanders' offense produced nine goals in the afternoon led by Will Corry, Benjamin Roberts and Austin Hahn each combining for two goals apiece.  

JC Echezuria, Blake Piscitiello and Ryan Sininsky each found the back of the net for the Highlanders.

Nirio Garcia posted seven ground balls while Emmerick Dopona added five.

Lafayette was paced offensively by Benjamin Dibattista, who tallied eight goals, and Nicholas Blalock added three goals and three assists in the victory.

NJIT in a stretch of four straight at home, will return to action on Saturday, February 21 when the Highlanders welcome UMass at 1:30pm on ESPN+.
