Men’s Lacrosse Plays St. John’s on Sunday

FLANDERS, N.J. - The NJIT men's lacrosse team (1-0) will play St. John's (0-0) on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at Mount Olive High School. There will be no live stream, but admission to the game will be free for all fans.
 
NJIT News & Notes
The Highlanders are coming off a 22-8 win over Hampton in their season opener on Feb. 3. NJIT picked up 61 ground balls against the Pirates, the most in a single game in program history.
 
Blake Piscitiello led NJIT with eight points (3 goals, 5 assists) against Hampton, marking the most points by a Highlander in his collegiate debut in program history. Freshman Will Corry added seven points with a game-high six goals, while Dylan Sebastian finished with four points (2 goals, 2 assists).
 
Defensively, Sullivan O'Brien recorded four caused turnovers and six ground balls. Alexander Cartwright, Colin Lowe, and Blake Piscitiello each collected four ground balls. Goalkeeper Cameron Kurdyla made a career-high 17 saves.
 
Nirio Garcia (16-of-18) and Michael Gaffney (11-of-15) dominated at the X, combining to win 81.8% of their faceoffs.
 
In 2025, JC Echezuria was named to the America East All-Rookie Team after leading the team with 29 points (17 goals, 12 assists), ranking third among all freshmen in the conference.
 
Emmerick Dopona led the Highlanders with 15 caused turnovers last season and led the America East with 2 caused turnovers per game during conference play. O'Brien led all NJIT non-faceoff players with 28 ground balls.
 
Goalkeeper Joey Schwarz ranked second in the America East with 11.83 saves per game during conference play.
 
Scouting St. John's
St. John's will open its season against NJIT for the third consecutive year.
 
Adrian Nowak is the leading returning scorer for the Johnnies, recording 44 points (24 goals, 20 assists) in 2025.
 
St. John's edged NJIT 15-14 in a thriller last season in Newark. Echezuria recorded five points (3 goals, 2 assists) in that contest. The all-time series is tied 1-1.
 
Next Up
NJIT will host Lafayette on Feb. 14 in a Valentine's Day showdown at 1:30 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
