​NEWARK, NJ – Senior Irene Cocero was named Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Cocero helped the Highlanders to a 1–1 week, earning a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 singles victory over Rutgers' Karina Jumazhanova. The Alcalá de Henares, Spain native also secured a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles against Quinnipiac's Anagha Shankar, clinching a 4-3 home victory for NJIT.

This is the second straight Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week award for NJIT as Laura Wipfli earned Player of the Week accolades on January 28.
