CLINTON, S.C. -- The NJIT baseball team secures first win of the season, 14-2, at Presbyterian on Friday night.
The Highlanders wasted no time setting the tone, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Ty Sallie walked, stole second and third, and then swiped home to open the scoring. Austin Francis later came around on a sacrifice fly from Cole Campbell to give the Highlanders an early 2-0 lead.
The Highlanders added single runs in the third and fourth innings, highlighted by Lorenzo Camilleri's first collegiate home run to left-center in the fourth to make it 4-0.
After Presbyterian cut the deficit to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth, the Highlanders responded in the sixth. Jack Stead delivered the knockout blow with a three-run homer to left, capping a four-run frame that extended the lead to 10-2.
The Highlanders continued to pour it on late. Nick Vega launched a solo home run to center in the eighth, and Rowin O'Connor put the finishing touches on the night with a three-run blast in the ninth.
