ORONO, ME – The NJIT men's basketball team wins sixth straight on the road against Maine, 67-58, and improve to 10-2 in America East play on Saturday afternoon.
The Highlanders opened the game on an 8-0 run in the first two and a half minutes of play before the Black Bears settled into their defense.
The Highlanders hot rand spanned across the first ten minutes of play as the team shot 9-10 from the field and 2-2 from deep to get the early lead.
The first half was controlled by the Highlanders, however in the final minutes the momentum shifted in favor of the Black Bears who went into halftime on a 9-2 run to take the 35-31 lead after twenty minutes of play.
This was the first time the Highlanders trailed going into halftime in their previous five games however the Highlanders were able to answer to adversity and went on a 22-5 run in ten minutes of play in the second half to surge them back into the lead.
The Highlanders were making big plays on both ends of the floor with the defense only allowing the Black Bears six made field goals on 26 attempts and only one allowed three. The Highlanders outscored the Black Bears by 13 points in the second half.
Leading the way for the Highlanders was junior
Sebastian Robinson who continues his impressive play in conference play. The guard from Montclair, New Jersey had 23 points for a second game in a row on 9-15 from the field. This is Robinson's 10
th straight game in double-figures, his 14th in his last 15 games and his seventh game in conference play with 20+ points.
Freshman
David Bolden followed his back court mate with 15 points, his 8th double-digit game in conference play. Sophomore
Ari Fulton was the third and final Highlander in double-figures with 14 points, his sixth straight game with 10+ points.
This is the Highlanders' 10th conference win of the season which is the highest win total in program history, passing their win total of 9 as a member of the Great West in 2010-11. The six-game winning streak also passes their previous highest winning streak of five games set back in January 2019.
