Smithfield, R.I. – The NJIT baseball team dropped the series opener at Bryant on Friday, 10-9.
How it Happened
Bryant took an early lead by pushing a run across in the first. After the two starting pitchers ruled the middle innings, NJIT took the lead with three runs in the sixth on a pair of run-scoring hits. The Bulldogs tied it with runs in the seventh and eighth, but a six-run top of the ninth inning put the Highlanders ahead, 9-3. Bryant would mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, scoring seven runs to walk it off with the 10-9 win.
Jack Stead had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 on the morning. Austin Francis drove in three runs to push his team-leading RBI total up to 42. Cole Campbell, Ray Ortiz and Mason Wolf each had two hits and an RBI on the day.
