Late Rally Backs DeSchryver's Dominant Outing in Win Over UMass Lowell

Little Falls, N.J. – Nate DeSchryver tied a career-high with 11 strikeouts and the Highlander offense padded the lead late with a five-run eighth inning in an 8-2 victory over UMass Lowell on Thursday night.

DeSchryver worked seven inning and allowed only two hits in his outing, surrendering just one run to go with his 11 punchouts. Offensively, Mason Wolf guided the path to victory with three hits and two RBI. Andrew Eppinger also had a three-hit night, while Austin Francis, Ty Sallie and Jaden Cabellero each collected multiple hits.

How it Happened
NJIT's offense got started in the third, as Wolf doubled home the first run of the day and extended his hitting streak to 14. After Wolf advanced up to second later in the inning, Francis would knock him in with a single to center to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead.

UMass Lowell got to DeSchryver in the fourth on an RBI double, but the Highlanders got the run right back on a Caballero sacrifice fly to reclaim the two-run advantage. DeSchryver maintained that lead through the middle innings, including striking out the side to finish off his outing in the seventh inning.

The River Hawks made it a one-run game in the eighth, but NJIT padded the lead in the bottom half to coast to the win. Cole Campbell worked a one out walk and came all the way around to score on a double to left field from Ray Ortiz. Wolf would then bring Ortiz home on an RBI single to center, his third hit of the night. Later in the frame, pinch-runner Andrew Hart would score on a passed ball, followed by run-scoring hits from Sallie and Jack Stead to cap off the five-run frame.
