Little Falls, N.J. – MT Morrissey tossed a complete game and struck out a career-high 11 batters while Michael Doyle launched a game-winning three-run homer in the eighth inning as NJIT topped UMass Lowell, 4-2, on Friday.

How it Happened
UMass Lowell jumped out to the early lead, crushing a solo home run in the top of the first to gain an early advantage. In the fourth, a second River Hawk crossed home plate after an RBI single to center. From there on out, MT Morrissey dominated and held the UMass Lowell offense at bay.

The Highlanders entered the bottom of the eighth inning trailing by two runs, but mounted pressure by loading the bases with nobody out. After a strikeout, the first NJIT run crossed the plate on a groundout from Jack Stead. With two outs an the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position, Doyle launched a three-run shot over the wall in left-center to put the Highlanders ahead for good.

Morrissey came back out for the ninth inning with his pitch count sitting at exactly 100. Morrissey worked around a two-out double and struck out two more batters to get to 11 punchouts on the night to set a new career-high.
