Smithfield, R.I. – The NJIT baseball team could not capture the rubber match of its three-game series at Bryant, falling to the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon, 9-4.
How it Happened
NJIT got on the board in the first inning for the second straight game, as
Austin Francis reached on a fielder's choice which allowed
Ray Ortiz to score with the game's first run. Bryant would respond in the middle innings, scoring four times in the third and three times in the fourth to mount a 7-1 advantage. Francis tacked on another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly for his second RBI of the day, but the Bulldogs would answer right back with runs in the sixth and seventh.
Jack Stead tacked on two more runs in the ninth with a two-run triple, but Bryant was able to close things out to take the series finale.
Francis and Stead each had two RBI's on the afternoon, while
Mason Wolf and
Andrew Eppinger each collected two hits.
