Little Falls, N.J. – The NJIT baseball team dropped its midweek contest, 7-4, to Rider on Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
How it Happened
NJIT got off on the right foot, getting out to a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. After
Ray Ortiz walked to lead off the bottom of the first,
Andrew Eppinger ripped an RBI double to left center to bring home the first run of the game. Four batters later,
Jack Stead capped off a three-run first with a two-run single up the middle.
In the second,
Ty Sallie would tack on the fourth NJIT run of the ballgame with an RBI single to center.
In the third, Rider pieced together some hits to comeback and tie the score. A bases loaded walk issued by
Jack Sylvia gave the Broncs their first run, and a two-run double brought Rider back within a run. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly knotted things up at 4-4.
The Broncs would go in front in the fourth inning on a solo home run, and would later tack on some insurance runs in the top of the ninth to claim the victory.
