Stead's Walk-Off Guides Highlanders Past Wagner, 6-5

Little Falls, N.J. – Jack Stead delivered a walk-off two-run single to cap off his four-hit performance as NJIT topped Wagner, 6-5, on Friday afternoon at Yogi Berra Stadium. It marked Stead's fourth multi-hit game of his career and was his first ever four-hit game.

How it Happened
Wagner controlled the game in the early going, scoring once in the first and twice in the second inning to hold a 3-0 lead. The Seahawks would maintain that lead until the fifth, when Ray Ortiz clubbed his America East-leading ninth home run of the season to get NJIT on the board.

The Seahawks would respond immediately in the sixth, as a throwing error from Anthony Anzaldi on a sacrifice bunt attempt allowed Wagner's fourth run to score. The Highlanders would rally in the seventh, however, to level the game up at 4-4. Ortiz kept his hot hitting going with a line drive single to right center to score a pair of runs. Later in the frame, Mason Wolf hit a long sacrifice fly to left to score Andrew Hart from third.

In the ninth, Wagner put a runner aboard with two outs, but a misplay in right field allowed the runner to advance to second base. Diego Tavarez would capitalize on the miscue, singling to right field to give Wagner a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom of the ninth, Eppinger ripped a one-out double to left to give NJIT some life. After back-to-back walks loaded the bases, Stead ripped a ball down the left field line to score Eppinger and Cole Campbell to win the game.
