Little Falls, N.J. – Landon Parker collected his first three collegiate hits and knocked in two runs to pace NJIT in a 7-6 midweek victory over FDU on Wednesday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
How it Happened
FDU put the pressure on early, posting a crooked number in the top of the first inning. An RBI single and a pair of sacrifice flies put the Knights ahead, 3-0, after half an inning. FDU would tack on another tally in the second to build an early 4-0 advantage on the road.
After being held in check through the first three innings, the Highlander offense awoke in the fourth. A hit by pitch and three walks allowed the first run of the game to come across for NJIT. Parker followed by lacing an RBI single through the left side to cut the FDU deficit in half.
Cole Campbell followed with another knock with the bases loaded, scorching a two-run double down the left field line to tie the game at 4-4. Two batters later,
Mason Wolf capped off the six-run frame with a two-run single to give NJIT a 6-4 lead.
After FDU got a run back in the top of the fifth, the Highlanders answered immediately in the bottom of the fifth.
Jaden Caballero walked with two outs and stole second to get in scoring position. Parker collected his third hit of the night, grounding a single into center to push the Highlander lead back to two.
FDU again responded with a run in the sixth, but was held in check for the remainder of the night. The Knights loaded the bases in the eighth inning against the NJIT bullpen, but
Jack Sylvia came on to escape the threat en route to his first career save.
