NJIT Men’s Lacrosse Plays Final Home Game of the Season Against UMBC

NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT men's lacrosse team (1-9, 0-4 AE) plays its final home game of the season against UMBC (6-3, 4-1 AE) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+, with Adam Dobrowolski on the call.
 
NJIT NEWS & NOTES
NJIT enters the contest with a 1-9 record, most recently falling to UMass Lowell, 10-8, on April 12.
 
Evan Schmitt won the America East Rookie of the Week on March 31 after recording the first five points (3 goals, 2 assists) of his career against Vermont on March 29.
 
Joey Schwarz won the America East Goalkeeper of the Week on March 24 after making a career-high 15 saves and posting a .625 save percentage against Binghamton on March 22. Schwarz has recorded 15 saves in three of the Highlanders' four America East games this season.
 
Emmerick Dopona set career highs with four ground balls and five caused turnovers against Binghamton on March 22, leading the team with 13 CTOs this season. He ranks 7th in the America East with 1.30 caused turnovers per game and first in the America East with 2.50 caused turnovers per game in conference play.
 
Sullivan O'Brien leads all non-NJIT faceoff players with 25 ground balls, including 22 in his last six games.
 
Isaac Vanzomeren was named the America East Faceoff Specialist of the Week on March 3 after winning 15-of-25 faceoffs (60%) and recording nine ground balls against Drexel on Feb. 26. He also won 14-of-22 faceoffs (a season-best 63.6%) against Bryant. Vanzomeren ranks second in the America East and 14th in the nation with 6.44 ground balls per game.
 
JC Echezuria earned America East Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 10 after tallying five points (3 goals, 2 assists) against St. John's. His five-point performance is the most points by a Highlander in a collegiate debut in program history. He leads the team with 21 points this season (12 goals, 9 assists).
 
Alystair Hemberger is second on the team with 12 points (10 goals, 2 assists) this season, while Christopher Eiselein ranks third with 10 points (7 goals, 3 assists).
 
SCOUTING UMBC
UMBC enters the contest with a 6-3 record following a dominant 17-7 victory over Binghamton on April 12. The Retrievers are receiving votes in the most recent USILA Coaches' Poll.
 
Jordan Galloway leads UMBC with 30 points (17 goals, 13 assists) and ranks second in the America East with 3.33 points per game. Dylan Sharpe leads the team with 18 caused turnovers and ranks second in the conference with 2.00 CTOs per game. Connor McMahon paces the America East with a 9.44 goals against average.
 
UMBC leads the all-time series, 4-0, including a 13-6 win in Baltimore last season. Benjamin Roberts led NJIT with two goals against the Retrievers in 2024.
