BLUE POINT, NY–Stony Brook edged visiting NJIT, 4-3, Saturday evening in women's tennis non-conference action.
The Highlanders collected the doubles point with wins at first and third doubles. Laura Wipfli/Irene Cocero teamed for a 6-3 victory at the first spot and Paula Menendez Alvarez/Feyza Aydin combined for a 6-4 victory at the third spot to earn the point.
Wipfli and Cocero were both double-winners on the day. Wipfli registered a 6-3, 7-6 (8) victory at first singles and at the fourth spot, Cocero won by identical scores, 6-2, 6-2.
The Southland Conference Tournament will begin next week (April 22-26) in Thibodaux, LA. More information regarding the tournament will be coming soon.
