LOWELL, Mass. - The NJIT men's lacrosse team (1-9, 0-4 AE) suffered a 10-8 loss to UMass Lowell (4-7, 1-3 AE) on Saturday evening at Cushing Field.
NJIT struck first, as
Ryan Menard scored his second goal of the season. Then, UMass Lowell went on a 5-0 run until
JC Echezuria tallied a goal at the end of the first quarter.
Benjamin Roberts and
Evan Schmitt scored goals for NJIT in the second quarter, but the Riverhawks lead 8-4 at halftime.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first 11 minutes of the third quarter. Then,
Jadon McKenzie scored his second goal of the season.
The Highlanders outscored UMass Lowell 3-1 in the fourth quarter with goals from
Dylan Sebastian, Echezuria, and
Alystair Hemberger.
Echezuria led the Highlanders with three points (2 goals, 1 assist). Roberts added two points (1 goal, 1 assist) and
Gabe Thompson and
Emmerick Dopona each recorded two caused turnovers.
Joey Schwarz made 15 saves for the third time this season.
UMass Lowell outshot NJIT 43-35 and held a 31-18 advantage in ground balls.

The Highlanders will host their final home game of the season against UMBC on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium.
