Little Falls, N.J. – The NJIT baseball team dropped its non-conference matchup against Wagner on Saturday afternoon, 7-2, at Yogi Berra Stadium.
How it Happened
Wagner got on the board in the second inning, as a sacrifice fly gave the Seahawks an early 1-0 advantage. NJIT starter
MT Morrissey was able to work out of any further trouble in the early innings to keep the Highlanders in it. In the fourth, however, Wagner was able to put up a four-spot to extend its lead. In the fifth, a two-run shot from Jeremy Delamota pushed the Seahawks' lead up to 7-0.
NJIT tried to piece together momentum late. In the eighth,
Ray Ortiz singled and
Cole Campbell doubled to mount a Highlander threat with one out. After a walk loaded the bases, a sacrifice fly from
Mason Wolf got NJIT on the board.
Austin Francis followed with an RBI single to make it a 7-2 game, but Wagner was able to get a flyout to end the inning and avoid further damage.
