ORLANDO, FL–The NJIT women's tennis team swept Milwaukee, 4-0, to conclude the Highlanders Spring Break trip in Florida Thursday evening at the USTA National campus.
"I'm really proud of the women tonight," said head coach Patricia Piorkowski McDonald. "The weather was wild, very windy and a brief rain shower came through. I was impressed with how each and every member of the team continued to work through their matches and figure out the conditions to come out ahead tonight. We've worked hard all week adjusting to outdoor conditions and it really did pay off tonight. The doubles were good, but the singles were really impressive."
NJIT, which moved back into the win column, improved to 9-4 on the season, sweeping the doubles contests and picked up wins at second, third and fourth singles.
Doubles pair Irene Cocero and Laura Wipfli combined for a 6-2 win at the first spot. Cocero, competing at fourth singles, clinched the match for NJIT, with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Arina Babkova and Shalom Salvi were 6-2 winners at second doubles. Salvi tallied a 7-5, 6-3 win at third singles for NJIT.
Paula Menendez Alvarez and Feyza Aydin combined for a 6-4 win at third doubles while Mendenez Alvarez won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2 at second singles.
NJIT will return back to action on Friday, March 28 when the Highlanders host LIU at 4pm.
