Plymouth Meeting, Pa. – The NJIT baseball team dropped its series finale at Villanova on Sunday afternoon, 10-3.
How it Happened
NJIT scored first for the third straight game in the series, as Mason Wolf continued his strong series with an RBI single to center which scored Austin Francis from third. That lead remained through the first two innings as NJIT starter Brandon Peterson set down six of the first seven batters he faced.
Villanova answered with five runs in the third, including a go-ahead grand slam, to take a 5-1 lead. The Highlanders chipped away over the following two innings, as a Ray Ortiz double followed by a Francis single in the fourth cut the deficit down to 5-2. In the fifth, Jack Stead led off the inning with his first career home run to make it a 5-3 ballgame.
In the late innings, Villanova's offense would prove to be too much, as it plated three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to pull away with the win.
