NEWARK, N.J. - The NJIT men's lacrosse team hosts St. John's for its season opener on Saturday at noon at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Adam Dobrowolski on the call.
NJIT NEWS & NOTES
NJIT came back from a 3-0 deficit to secure a 10-8 victory over St. John's in its 2024 season opener in Queens, marking the program's first win against a Big East team.
Jesse Roth recorded two points (1 goal, 1 assist), and
Ryan Sininsky added a goal against the Red Storm.
The Highlanders are coming off their best season in program history in 2024, finishing with a program-best eight wins and a historic 7-0 start. NJIT also received votes in the Inside Lacrosse and USILA Coaches' polls for the first time in program history.
The Red and Blue return
Ryan Sininsky (14 goals, 13 assists),
Jesse Roth (14 goals, 7 assists) and
Benjamin Roberts (13 goals, 7 assists) among starters on the offensive end. Johns Hopkins transfer
Russell Maher was selected as an Impact Transfer to Watch by Inside Lacrosse.
Adyn Cover recorded 11 points (6 goals, 5 assists) as a freshman last season.
Isaac Vanzomeren returns to the faceoff circle after missing the 2024 season with an injury. He won 98-of-190 faceoffs and led the team with 64 ground balls in 2023.
With a win, NJIT would secure its first back-to-back season opening victories in program history. The Highlanders would also improve to 2-0 in the all-time series against St. John's and 2-2 against Big East opponents.
SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S
St. John's posted a 4-11 record in 2024, with its first BIG EAST win since 2016 over Marquette.
The Red Storm are led by Brian Kelly and Bobby Seel, who were named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Kelly (29 goals, 15 assists) earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2024, while Seel (25 goals, 16 assists) was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Adam Dembicki won 61-of 132 faceoffs and scooped 23 ground balls as a freshman in 2024.
