AMHERST, Mass. - The NJIT men's lacrosse team (0-2) fell to UMass (3-1), 12-4, in its first road game of the season on Saturday at Garber Field.
UMass jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first eight goals, including five in the first half.
Ryan Sininsky netted NJIT's first goal with 8:38 left in the third quarter.
After Sininsky's goal, the Gorillas responded with four straight goals.
The Highlanders rallied with three unanswered goals, beginning with
Alystair Hemberger finding the back of the net with 6:13 left in the game. Hemberger leads NJIT with four goals this season.
NJIT scored two goals in 13 seconds, starting with
Ryan Menard's first career goal, assisted by
Michael Rettberg.
Isaac Vanzomeren then scored his first goal since 2023 off the faceoff.
NJIT held a 46-38 advantage in shots and a 10-9 edge in faceoffs. However, UMass outpaced the Highlanders in saves (18-10) 18-10 and ground balls (25-19).
UMass' Trace Hogan and Robbie Granara each recorded four points (3 goals, 1 assist).

NJIT will host Drexel on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
