Newark, NJ -
After Saturday's game vs STAC was postponed to Tuesday due to inclement weather, The Highlanders were looking to end the weekend with a win. Unfortunately, NJIT squandered a 5-0 lead and lost 6-5 in overtime to the UMBC Retrievers. Highlanders are now 1-5 in games against non-ACHA opponents.

Sal Micciche broke the ice with a goal nearly three minutes into the game. Richard Kosco got the lone helper. Brenden Smith would give NJIT a 2-0 lead off a great feed from Noah Bergen a few minutes later. Micciche would get his 2nd of the night past the halfway point of the period with Charlie Youse with the assist. Tim Apelizan would get a power play goal late in the period with Bergen and Micciche getting the helpers. The Highlanders would have that 4-0 lead after the 1st intermission.

Micciche would get the hat-trick just over five minutes gone by in the 2nd period to give NJIT a commanding 5-goal cushion. But after that, the Retrievers would begin their comeback scoring two goals to cut their deficit down to 3. It would remain a 5-3 Highlander lead after 40 minutes.

UMBC would continue their comeback tallying 3 goals to tie the game at 5-5 and that would be the score after regulation. The game shifted into a 5 minute 3-on-3 overtime period where both teams had opportunities to win the game as the period progressed. The Retrievers would get the game winning goal with less than 30 seconds remaining and they completed their comeback by scoring six unanswered goals to win. Noah Gibb made 31 saves in the outing.
