Four in a Row for Women’s Tennis

2/14/2025 7:04:00 PM

NEWARK, NJ–The NJIT women's tennis team won its fourth straight match of the season with a convincing 6-1 home victory over Saint Joseph's Friday evening at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.

The Highlanders improved to 4-2 overall and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 mark.

NJIT won the doubles point and took five out of six singles contests to secure the 6-1 home victory.

From Head Coach Patricia Piorkowski McDonald
"The women had a nice win today.  Saint Joe's is a hard hitting team and it was interesting today to watch the point development of the NJIIT players.  They did a great job figuring out a game plan for their opponents and executing shots to win matches.  It is nice to see the energy back for the doubles point win as well!"

Highlander duo Laura Wipfli/Shalom Salvi picked up a 6-2 victory at the first spot and earned the doubles point as Lusia Hepcal Barcan/Feyza Aydin recorded a 6-3 win at the third spot.

Irene Cocero won in straight sets – 6-3, 6-0 at third singles followed by a 7-5, 6-1 victory at the first spot from Paula Menendez Alvarez.

Shalom Salvi battled out a three-set victory at the second spot, coming out on top 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 while Petra Koszo posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at sixth singles for the home team.

Feyza Aydin picked up a point for the Highlanders at the fifth spot, 7-6, 2-0 retired to conclude the match.
