NEWARK, NJ – The NJIT men's basketball team takes down New Haven on Wednesday night, 70-64.
The Highlanders offense had one of their strongest starts to a game so far this season. Sophomore
Jeremy Clayville started off the half on fire with ten quick points in the first 12 minutes of play.
Clayville finished the half with 12 points on 5-7 shooting from the field and 2-4 from behind the arc.
In the first twenty minutes, the Highlanders as a team shot 14-30 from the field (46.7%) heading into the break with a three-point lead and led for all twenty minutes.
Coming out of the break, defense was the primary side of the ball.
In the first ten minutes of the final half, each team only scored 13 points, and both teams went on scoring droughts of two plus minutes.
However, momentum shifted when the Highlanders went on an 8-0 run capitalized by a three from sophomore
John Kelly at the nine-minute mark to help the Highlanders lead grow to six points.
The Highlanders offense continued to roll as the team got their biggest lead of the game up by ten with just under four minutes to go in regulation.
Sophomore
Ari Fulton scored in double digits for a second game in a row with 12 points and he also corralled a team-high nine rebounds on 4-8 shooting from the field.
Junior
Sebastian Robinson played a vital role in the Highlanders' offense coming off the bench scoring 12 points and have two huge and-one plays.
Freshman
David Bolden was the fourth and final Highlander to score in double figures finishing the game with 10 points, four rebounds and a team-high five assists. This marks the fifth game of the season where the first-year guard has recorded multiple assists.
As a team, the Highlanders shot 21-47 from the field (44.7%) and had seven players scoring six points or more.
The Highlanders first home game in 25 days is also their first win over that span.
