NEWARK, N.J. - Six NJIT women's soccer players were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday, including
Mikayla Balio,
Merle Hueser,
Kirra Hyder,
Emily Jozak,
Maria Nogueira, and
Kara Thompson.
Balio, Hueser, and Nogueira are receiving CSC Academic All-District Team honors for the second straight season.
Balio, a Civil Engineering major, holds a 3,687 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List six times. She finished fourth on the team with six points this season (2 goals, 2 assists), including the game-winning goal against UMBC on Oct. 30.
Hueser, a Business major, boasts a 3.887 GPA and has made the Dean's List four times. She led the team with 1,609 minutes and played the full 90 minutes in 17 of 18 games. Hueser scored a goal against Marist on Aug. 24 and contributed to five shutouts this season.
Hyder, a Chemical Engineering major with a 3.663 GPA, has made the Dean's List twice. She was fourth on the team with six points (2 goals, 2 assists) this season, including four points (1 goal, 2 assists) during America East play.
Jozak, a Business major, carries a 3.556 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List three times. She finished second on the team with eight points (2 goals, 4 assists) and ranked second in the America East with four assists this season. The Wayne, New Jersey native also scored the game-winning goal against Marist on Aug. 24.
Nogueira, a Business major, holds a 3.684 GPA and has made the Dean's List six times. She earned America East First Team All-Conference honors for the first time in her career after leading all NJIT defenders with five points (1 goal, 3 assists) this season. Nogueira scored the game-winning Olympico goal against UMass on Aug. 21. The senior ranked second on the team with 1,594 minutes played this season and logged the full 90 minutes in 16 of 18 matches. She also helped the Highlanders record five shutouts.
Thompson, a Chemical Engineering major with a 3.819 GPA, has been named to the Dean's List five times. She scored her first career goal against Vermont on Oct. 16 and recorded her first career assist against UAlbany on Sept. 28.
