BALTIMORE, Md. - Mikayla Balio scored her second goal of the season in the 87th minute as the NJIT women's soccer team (7-5-6, 2-3-3 AE) earned a 1-0 victory over UMBC (6-8-4, 2-5-1 AE) on Thursday night at Retriever Soccer Field.
 
Despite the win, the Highlanders were eliminated from postseason contention following Maine's 2-1 victory over New Hampshire.
 
How it Happened
The first half was scoreless, as UMBC outshot NJIT 7-1 in the first 45 minutes.
The Highlanders created several chances to take the lead in the second half. In the 70th minute, 
Kelsey Ramos fired a shot that struck the post. Sixteen minutes later, 
Kara Thompson's attempt hit the crossbar.
Just one minute after that, Balio found the breakthrough, scoring off the post and in on an assist from Ramos.

Riley Jones played the full 90 minutes.
 
UMBC led in shots (14-8), shots on goal (7-4), corner kicks (6-2), and possession (54%-46%).
