PHILADELPHIA–Highlander newcomers Paul Veltrup and Fabio Mastromarino led NJIT to an impressive performance at the 2025 Coach Nikki Franke Open hosted by Temple Sunday.

Graduate student Paul Veltrup from Grefrath, Germany captured the gold medal in the men's epee competition while teammate Fabio Mastromarino, a freshman from Pistoia, Italy placed second in the men's epee competition.  Other Highlanders competing in the epee competition: Daniel Jeun (28th) and Ryan Scharf (36th).

Aidan Doctor led the men's foil squad with a 19th place finish followed by Julian Detering (24th), Sabit Kilinc (39th), Robert Rountree (54th) and Carlos Grodman (62nd).

In the men's sabre competition, Adrian Figueredo paced the Highlanders with a 24th place finish followed by Gonzalo Fernandez (33rd), Brandon Howe (47th) and Markelo Deona.

The Highlanders will return to action at the two-day Invitational at Drew on November 1-2.
